Columbia Pictures is Bringing the ‘Anaconda’ Franchise Back to the Big Screen With a New Movie!

The aquatic horror resurgence continues!

After spawning three sequels and a spinoff crossover film with the Lake Placid franchise (no really, that totally happened), the 1997 film Anaconda is getting a remake, THR reports.

“Columbia Pictures is developing an all-new and all-modern take on the cult movie,” the site notes, hiring Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tomb Raider) to write the script. The site’s sources describe the film as a “reimagining” of the original, with Columbia planning a big budget production in the vein of The Meg.

The original film was directed by Luis Llosa, and it featured an ensemble cast including Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson and Danny Trejo.

In the 1997 movie, a film crew is taken hostage by an insane hunter, who forces them along on his quest to capture the world’s largest – and deadliest – snake.

Like the experimental “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” before it, upcoming horror movie The Run will be taking an interactive approach, allowing YOU to decide the outcome of events.

Deadline reports today that Roxanne McKee (“Game of Thrones”) and George Blagden (“Vikings”) will star in The Run, which will be directed by Paul Raschid (Ten Dates).

The site details, “The interactive element will involve the viewer being asked to make high-stakes decisions for the protagonist at various points throughout the story that will affect the direction of the narrative and in some cases, result in early death.”

Here’s the plot synopsis for The Run: “The story is set on a remote running trail, where a famous fitness influencer’s morning run becomes a race for survival when she is hunted by seemingly motiveless killers. She meets local farmer Matteo along the way and the viewer’s choices determine whether they live or die.”

Seth Michaels, Sara Sometti Michaels, and Reece Foster of Benacus Entertainment & RNF Productions said, “We have been following the career of Paul Raschid after meeting him in the Film Festival circuit back in 2018 with his film White Chamber. The interactive aspect excites us. Following the success of Black Mirror’s Bandersnatch, we feel that this medium hasn’t been explored much, and making a Horror/Thriller on top of it, gives the audience the power to control the outcome and future of the characters with a wonderful twist at the end.”
